Winter Activities

The Katahdin Lake area offers many different cross country skiing and snowshoeing adventures for the winter enthusiast from novice to advanced.
Near to camp, the entire lake has amazing views of Mt. Katahdin and there are marked trails to Rocky Pond, Pitcher Plant Pond, and Martin Ponds. Further a field and for the more experienced, the trip to Twin Ponds makes for a challenging full day trip.
Just beyond the east boundary of the park there are miles of logging roads to explore for those who do not mind breaking trail.

A day trip to Chimney Pond is also possible from Katahdin Lake Wilderness Camps. In the morning we can take guests from camp to Avalanche Field via our winter shuttle. From Avalanche Field on the Roaring Brook Road, guests ski and snowshoe up to Roaring Brook Campground and from there work their way up the trail to Chimney Pond.
On the return trip later that day, we meet guests back at Avalanche Field and shuttle them down the Katahdin Lake Trail to camp.

At the end of the day, enjoy some time in our wood burning sauna
